Description
Cortaderia selloana, known as pampas grass, is a stunning perennial grass appreciated for its tall, feathery plumes and architectural shape. Native to South America, it adapts beautifully to Mediterranean climates like Cyprus. This plant forms clumps of arching green leaves and produces striking white or pink plumes in late summer to autumn. It is drought-tolerant, low-maintenance, and ideal for coastal gardens, privacy screens, or erosion control. While it’s hardy and long-lived, pruning dead foliage annually helps maintain its shape and health. Though non-toxic, its sharp-edged leaves may cause skin irritation, and in some regions, it’s considered invasive, so it’s best managed responsibly.
